UEFA inaugurated a new VAR centre at its Nyon headquarters on 8 September, ahead of the opening Champions League matchday.
The facility brings together 11 video-operation rooms. UEFA says fibre-optic links to stadiums will allow the centre to support more than 220 matches per season, backed by upgraded power, cooling and connectivity.
For viewers, the important development concerns where video officials work and how they prepare together. UEFA describes the centralised environment as a way to improve collaboration and consistency across its competitions.
The opening announcement is an operational update, not an announcement that the Laws of the Game have changed. It also does not promise that every European match will use the centre. Individual decisions will still need to be assessed against the applicable refereeing protocols.
