Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City won 2–0 at Porto on 8 September, opening their Champions League league phase with three points.
The breakthrough came in the 47th minute, when Haaland headed in Enzo Fernández’s chipped delivery. He added the second in stoppage time after Rayan Aït-Nouri helped create the chance.
City’s official report records several first-half saves from Diogo Costa, including efforts involving Haaland and Rayan Cherki. The visitors therefore had to carry their attacking pressure into the second half before securing the result.
Ayyoub Bouaddi made his first City start and played 75 minutes. The result also ended Porto’s 33-match unbeaten home run, according to City’s report. It was a league-phase opening win, with the wider European campaign still ahead.
