Yash Thakur has replaced Harshit Rana in India’s squads for the Afghanistan T20Is and the 2026 Asian Games. The ICC confirmed the change in its 10 September report, citing a BCCI statement.
The update applies to both assignments. It is not a change limited to one match, and selection in the squad does not guarantee a place in the playing XI.
Why was the replacement made?
The ICC reported that Rana sustained a strain during match simulation on 7 September while recovering from a hamstring injury. He had originally been selected subject to fitness clearance.
No recovery date should be inferred from his withdrawal from these two squads.
Who comes in?
Thakur made his T20I debut on India’s Zimbabwe tour in July and took four wickets across two appearances, according to the ICC. He now occupies Rana’s place in both groups.
What should supporters check next?
The confirmed change answers who has entered the squad. It does not establish the bowling combination for each game. That requires the announced XI, rather than assumptions based on the replacement alone.
